Education begins with birth and your children are never too young to start, especially when you consider that your children develop and learn more during the first 3 years of life then they ever will again!

It is now largely accepted that children learn best in comfortable, familiar environments such as the home. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has acknowledged this by setting guidelines in place for home-based Early Childhood Education (ECE), which Poppetts has met and exceeded with their exciting and innovative programme GetREADY.

Poppetts believe that the pre-school years from birth – 5 years is when children are “getting ready” for so many things…talking, walking, play, learning and life. GetREADY supports families and their home educator/ nanny / family /whanau carer in providing a programme that is chartered by the Ministry of Education. Families who register with the GetREADY Programme receive many fantastic benefits that are completely free of charge!

What does Poppetts Get Ready programme provide?

  • An educational programme that is individual to each child and is based on the New Zealand Early Childhood Curriculum – Te Whaariki

  • Monthly home visits by a programme manager. This will enable the nanny/ home educator to plan a programme for your child taking into account the families values, needs and interests of the child.

  • Monthly reports and photos – on your child’s progress emailed to parents.
Access to WINZ and 20 hours ECE funding to make this an affordable option.

  • Memory books made up for each child with photos, artwork and learning stories.

  • Daily Diaries and systems to keep everyone in the loop.

  • Fortnightly contact and regular feedback to the family from the programme manager.

  • Access to educational resources and art supplies.

  • Regular playgroups and monthly trips.

Why do we only deal with Home based Childcare?
Research and our experience shows that children thrive in small group childcare .They also benefit from the care of a consistent caregiver with whom they can develop a responsive relationship. Home based care is able to provide this. Your child will get the individual attention to enable them to reach their full potential.

Home based care can cater to your child’s unique needs and really help your child as an individual rather than as a member of a large group or class.

Why is Early Childhood Education so beneficial for your child?

Research shows that future success of children is based on their exposure to early childhood education. The Ministry of Education has focussed their attention and funding on this period in a child’s education due to its importance.

A child learns through every experience and relationship it has, it does not need to be in a class room to learn. In fact the home is one of the best places to start your child on the educational journey. You as parents are their first teachers.

We offer a range of resources and support that assist you in that role. Our team based approach values and encourages your input as a parent with your child's early education.

What costs are involved?
There are no fees for the GetReady. You may be able to access WINZ and 20 ECE funding if on the programme. Any costs will depend on which care option you choose. They can range from $5.00 + per hour for a home educator to $20 + for an experienced nanny [less with WINZ or 20 hours ECE if eligible]. Tell us your budget and we will find an option that fits.

What activities will my child be involved in?
Homebased care keeps your child active in their community. This means e means an endless range of activities for your child: playgroups, walks in the park, Library time. Your child’s world is not bound by four walls and in a single location.

I have a family member caring for my child. Can I still access the programme?
Yes we have many families who use the family/whanau care option. WINZ and 20 Hours ECE still apply for this option.

I already have a nanny/ home educator can I join your programme?

Yes you can join. If you are part of an other service we are happy to explain our service and assist if you decide to join Poppetts Get Ready.
